Using AI
Using AI (Artificial Intelligence)
Any using of generative artificial intelligence (like ChatGPT) and other large language models must fulfil and follow academic integrity and rules given in editorial policies and publication ethics on this site. Even if application of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI, simpler AI) strictly follows such rules, it must be indicated in all steps of publication process.
Manuscript preparation: if AI has been used for any purposes in manuscript content, data gathering, study design or related topics, author(s) are required to disclose details on how the AI tool was used, make such application and data reproducible and list AI tool details (e.g. in the acknowledgment where other software are listed).
Reviews: AI or any other large language models cannot be used during review. That is not allowed to upload reviewing manuscripts into different AI tools.
Editor's decision-making process: editors, in any stage of publication process, are not allowed to use AI tools or upload the assigned content in any such software.
General rules:
- Authors are fully responsible for the originality, validity, and integrity of the content of their manuscript.
- Authors, reviewers and editors are not allowed, during consideration in active proceedings, to upload submitted/assigned material in any web-based AI tools and violate confidentiality policy given in editorial policies and publication ethics sections.
- Carefully using of AI to improve the written quality of a peer review report, such as checking grammar, structure, spelling, punctuation, and formatting, may be acceptable but should be declared in acknowledgment section or review report.
- Using of dedicated software for grammar and spelling corrections and/or plagiarism checking, which included the AI tools inside their code, is not forbidden, but such software must be disclosed in the acknowledgement section.
